GIGIL brings back the ‘DOTA o Ako’ couple for Netflix ‘DOTA: Dragon’s Blood’ campaign

Netflix and GIGIL might just have brought to life the “only good thing in 2021,” according to Scout Magazine. To launch
the anime series “DOTA: Dragon’s Blood” based on the battle arena game, GIGIL created a campaign with Netflix to bring back the viral couple Aikee and Vanessa that helped catapult the online game DOTA to pop culture.

Entitled “Dota o Ako, 10 Years Later,” Netflix resurrected a hit Filipino DOTA song (25 million YouTube views) from 2011
about a jealous girlfriend who makes her boyfriend choose between her and the game, creating a sequel that not just
leveled up their relationship with DOTA, but also the relationship that the game’s fans have through the show.

True to the iconic original music video, the sequel from Netflix features an all-new song done in a cheesy, Pinoy videokestyle
that will have every DOTA fan singing along.

When asked about what they’re most excited for DOTA fans to see, Aikee shares, “Sa song kasi ng ‘DOTA o Ako,’ hindi
nasagot kung ano nga ba ang pinili ko. Dito kasi ay masasagot ko na ang tanong na nakalutang ng sampung taon. At
gusto kong makita nila kung paano ako lumipad, hahaha!”

On thoughts about the campaign with GIGIL, the Netflix’s team had this to say: “We knew we wanted a campaign that
delighted core fans of the original game while we also wanted to appeal to broader audiences and penetrate mainstream
Pinoy pop culture–and fortunately, ‘DOTA at Ako’ sat at the intersection of all of that. Other ideas that we had during the
planning phase included giving DOTA heroes Pinoy voices, and getting cosplay artists recreate scenes as DOTA heroes,
but none of them held a candle to ‘DOTA at Ako.'”
