GIGIL launches The Indierectory to tackle the issue of unemployment and the pandemic’s effect on advertising professionals

Various industries have undoubtedly taken a hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unemployment seems to be one of the fastest growing effects of the lockdown. Among those who are struggling with this issue are freelancers or ‘ad independents.’

That’s why on April 12, 2020, indie agency GIGIL relaunched The Indierectory: Manila’s Directory of Ad Independents. This online platform gives freelance advertising professionals an avenue to show their portfolio and where potential clients may contact them. The initiative was launched back in November 2019, before the pandemic.

But now, it is in full effect, with its revamped website.

GIGIL shares that the site’s main goal is to give ad independents a wider reach and expose them to more work opportunities. This is a free platform sponsored by the agency, and it has proven to be extremely important, especially now, in the pandemic context.

The agency also has programs and events lined up for The Indierectory in the coming months. Among these are webinars and a Networking Night, where freelancers and clients may meet for potential business. Together, there is hope for agencies and ad independents to lessen the pandemic’s effect on the industry.
